Turkey is the second country in the world in access to higher education with 94.2% schooling rate. Turkey involved in European Higher Education Area is implementing the Bologna Process in a perfect way with a perfect 5 out of 5. So, the diploma you receive from a university in Turkey is recognized in all European countries. As course credit system, ECTS is applied in accordance with Europe and all students are given Diploma Supplement. In addition, Turkey is one of the most successful countries participating in the exchange programs under Erasmus +. In addition to Erasmus, there are many exchange programs in Turkey, such as Mevlana, Farabi, which support the mobility of students and lecturers.

Life in Turkey is more affordable than most countries. You can meet your needs, such as accommodation, food and drink, and entertainment at  affordable prices. You can stay at the dormitories within or near the University campuses, or rent a house for a reasonable lease. In addition, whichever transportation you choose as a student, you will receive a ticket at a discounted price, or watch the movie in the cinema at cheaper.

Turkey is a unique country in terms of offering high quality education options with very low tuition fees compared to many leading countries in higher education. The lower and upper limits of the amount of contributions to be received from international students are determined by the government and net amounts are left to the initiative of universities. For this reason, the tuition fees in Turkish universities vary according to the type of university (state or foundation), the level of the program (undergraduate or graduate), faculty (medicine, dentistry, engineering, law etc.) and the duration of education. The prices are affordable in comparison to universities of similar quality in Europe or America. 

Monthly budget you need to reserve for accommodation will vary between 100 to 200 Euros. State dormitories, university dormitories, private dormitories and rental flats each have varying costs. There is a monthly payment for dormitories and therefore you do not need to pay in the summer when you are not staying in the dorm.

Housing costs depend on the location, quality of the accommodation and on the season but the prices per month usually range from €100–150 in the dormitories to €250–450 in private flats.

Food approx. 100 euros

Studies and personal requirements (books, culture, recreation): approx. 75 euros

The ISIC (International Student Identity Card) card is the most advantageous card for all students. It allows cardholders to get student discounts for transport, restaurants, cinemas, museums, exhibitions and concerts.

The average monthly living expenses for a student in Turkey are approximately 350-550 euros. 

You may apply for the student visa at the competent representative authority at the earliest six months before your planned travel date. You should not apply later than 15 calendar days before your planned stay.

If you have a plan to work in your student life, what you need to know first is that your student residence permit does not cover the work permit alone. Therefore, if you want to work during your studies, you will first need to obtain a work permit. There are different types of work permits such as short-term, perpetual, independent work and are given by General Directorate of International Labour.
